A life is shaped by the knowledge, care, and freedom a person can reach. We support the people and institutions that make those things possible.

From our home in Minneapolis, our work extends across arts, climate, education, health, and community development. In Minnesota and the Midwest, this includes housing, public health, clean energy, and cultural life. Internationally, we support locally led work in education, health, cultural preservation, and sustainable agriculture.

We are interested in what remains after a grant has been spent: knowledge held within a community, an institution better able to serve, a possibility that did not exist before. That interest asks for patience and for sustained relationships with the people doing the work.
